International Convention on Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures of 18 May 1973

21 November 2010 the Federal Law of 03.11.2010 № 279-FZ "On accession of the Russian Federation to the International Convention on Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures of 18 May 1973, as amended by the Protocol on changes in the International Convention on Simplification and Harmonization of Customs procedures of June 26, 1999" (hereinafter - the act of accession) entered into force.

According to this Federal law the Russian Federation joins the International Convention on Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures of 18 May 1973 (hereinafter - the Convention) and, therefore, undertakes the obligation to promote the simplification of customs procedures and practical application of the provisions of international act in the national legislation.

The Convention is designed to eliminate discrepancies in the customs procedures of countries - participants of the international act. Provisions of the Convention are intended to expedite the passage of customs formalities for effective customs control.

This Convention shall enter into force for Russia on Feb. 21, 2011.
